Spring Bird Count Workshop

Location of Southwest Virginia Museum in Virginia

Where

Southwest Virginia Museum, 10 West First St. N., Big Stone Gap, VA 24219.
Museum Front Gate

When

May 13, 2023. 9:00 a.m. - 12:00 p.m.

Participants who register for this program will join local bird enthusiasts, Elaine Sheldon, and Joey O'Quinn for a fun-filled morning, during which they will learn about local bird activity during peak breeding season. Participants will meet at the front gate of the museum and then walk around the museum grounds and along the greenbelt of the beautiful Powell River, identifying birds as they go. Each participant will be provided an informational packet to help with the identification of bird calls of local species of birds.

After their walk, participants will have the opportunity to create a bird feeder to take home with them. This workshop is for adults and children. The workshop is optional, and you do not have to take part in the workshop to participate in the hike.

Participants are asked to wear appropriate clothing for the weather and comfortable walking shoes as this will be a three-hour easy hike. Binoculars are strongly encouraged but not required.

Registration is required for the bird feeder workshop; all supplies and materials are included. For more information about the workshop or to register, please contact the park at (276) 523-1322.
