National Kids to Parks Day

Join us for a day of fun outdoor activities that will help kids enjoy the natural world. Check out the National Park Trust's website: National Kids to Parks Day
All programs meet outdoors. Please dress accordingly and bring plenty of water.
11:00 a.m. - 12:00 p.m. Gold Panning - Mosey on over and join the ranger on a quest for this elusive mineral. You'll discover the history of gold in Virginia and learn the finer points of placer mining and how to work a pan. Then we'll head to the waters edge and see what washes up.
1:00 p.m. - 2:00 p.m. CSI: Creek Scene Investigation - Get your feet wet investigating the vast array of life in a stream. Catch crawdads, salamanders and macro-invertebrates. Find out what these tiny creatures tell us about the health of an entire ecosystem. We supply the nets, you supply old shoes. Be ready for a wet, messy adventure.
3:00 p.m. - 4:00 p.m. Frog Walk - Hop on over and enjoy a short walk along the shore as we look and listen for these amazing amphibians. Learn tricks to identify frog calls. We will be exploring the pond's edge and it tends to be muddy. Please wear appropriate shoes and clothing.
Advance registration required for all programs. Space is limited.
