When

March 11, 2023. 4:00 p.m. - 5:00 p.m.

What is a vernal pool? If you’re unfamiliar with these amazing habitats, you’re in for a treat! Ty Smith, local herpetologist expert, will take us out into the field to highlight the special aspects of this unique environment and the salamanders who call it home. We’ll take a short walk to visit one of our pools at the park, where we will search for all sorts of tiny creatures. The area can get muddy, so please wear closed-toed shoes.

This program is conducted in accordance with Virginia Law; park staff possess the proper permits and training to collect and briefly handle wildlife. Due to the sensitive nature of these habitats, registration is required and children need to be accompanied by an adult. Register online or call (804) 372-0720.
