Open fires are prohibited throughout the park from midnight to 4 p.m. through April 30 per the 4 p.m. Burning Law. This includes wood and charcoal. Gas is permissible. Campground fires are allowed during the restricted time if a camp host is on duty and signage to that effect is posted in the campground. Failure to observe the 4 p.m. Burning Law can result in a fine. Contact the Park Office for additional information.

People have been fascinated by the night sky for thousands of years. This has led us to create stories about the constellations and make amazing discoveries about our universe. The "Crewe" will have telescopes and a full presentation so you can get an up-close view of planets and galaxies. We will also explore how they formed and how they got their names. Bring your own binoculars, or telescope, to see these amazing wonders of the night sky. Also bring some comfortable chairs. Don't miss out on one of our best astronomy programs at James River State Park!
