Open fires are prohibited throughout the park from midnight to 4 p.m. through April 30 per the 4 p.m. Burning Law. This includes wood and charcoal. Gas is permissible. Campground fires are allowed during the restricted time if a camp host is on duty and signage to that effect is posted in the campground. Failure to observe the 4 p.m. Burning Law can result in a fine. Contact the Park Office for additional information.

We are looking forward to 2023 and our series of ranger-led First Day Hikes:

December 31, 2022

11 p.m. - 1 a.m. New Year's Eve Night Hike: Hike in the new year. Moderate to advanced 2.3-mile hike. Not suitable for kids 10 and under. Meet at Camp Store. Reservations required.

January 1, 2023

8 a.m. Silent Hike: Begin 2023 immersed in nature. Connect inward, listen, and reflect as you hike along Ground Pine Path. Easy, 0.6 mile loop. Meet at Visitor Center.

9:45 a.m. Co-Op Hike: One mile loop over gentle hills. Meet at Boat Ramp.

9 a.m. - 4 p.m. Facilities Open: Explore the Civilian Conservation Corps Museum and Visitor Center. Self-guided activities info available.

10:45 a.m. Little Tyke Hike: Stroller-friendly, less than one mile and for children 6 and under. Meet at CCC Museum.

11 a.m. - 1 p.m. Orienteering with Central VA Orienteering Club: More information can be found HERE. Meet at Visitor Center.

11 a.m. Breathwork: Simple, guided meditation and breath work activity. Meet at Amphitheater behind Visitor Center.

12:45 p.m. Trail-Mix Hike: A mix of our most popular trails. Moderate 3.5-mile loop. Leashed pets welcome. Meet at Visitor Center.

2 p.m. Investigation Hike: Learn how to incorporate technology into your next hike and get to know some of the park's native flora and fauna. Easy, slow paced one mile loop. Meet at Visitor Center.

3:45 p.mSwift Creek Dam Hike: End your day with a history hike. Approximate one mile loop, leashed pets welcome and strollers welcome. Meet at Swift Creek Banquet Hall.
