Open fires are prohibited throughout the park from midnight to 4 p.m. through April 30 per the 4 p.m. Burning Law. This includes wood and charcoal. Gas is permissible. Campground fires are allowed during the restricted time if a camp host is on duty and signage to that effect is posted in the campground. Failure to observe the 4 p.m. Burning Law can result in a fine. Contact the Park Office for additional information.

Sugar Hill Trail Head

Ring in the New Year with this rugged, three mile hike. 

Join a Park Ranger on a strenuous three mile hike along the Sugar Hill Loop Trail and Hillside Trail. The hike will take you from Oxbow Dam to the ruins of the French Settlement, and then back down by the park's vernal pool and ending at Oxbow Lake. Be sure to bring water, wear sturdy shoes, and dress for colder temperatures. This is a rain or shine event. Participants are encouraged to bring a hiking stick or camera to capture the beautiful scenery of the park.
