New River Trail Fitness Walk

Join park volunteer Jae Furman on a fun and energizing walk along New River Trail. This walk follows the New River Trail along Chestnut Creek from the caboose in Galax to the Cliffview ranger station and back for a total of four miles. The crushed-stone trail is 12-feet wide with almost no elevation change. You are welcome to walk less by turning back at any point. Participants finishing the walk will receive a free day pass for the Galax Recreation Center (think pool, gym, etc.!). Please note that there is a $7 fee for parking in VA State Park lots unless you have an annual pass. Rainfall, snow or temperatures below 40-degrees will cancel the walk in most cases. Comfortable footwear and bottled water is recommended for the walk. The group size will be limited to 12 and pre-registration will be required.
