Frightfully Delightful Reptiles - 2:30pm @ Shelter 3
Plan for a real treat by meeting some "monstrous" reptiles who have decided to visit us for our Halloween celebration. Monsters include a giant snake and a lizard that's seven feet long!!! Learn about the origin, habits, and characteristics of these awesome exotic animals and even get to hold a python!
Creepy Critters - 4:00pm @ Shelter 3
One person's creepy critter is another person's favorite animal. What are they? They're critters that people avoid. They make you jump, they make you screech, but they all play an important part in the ecosystem. Find out why they're more important than just being ingredients in a witch's brew!
Campground Decorating Contest - 5:00pm
We are inviting our graveyard, oops I mean campground, guests to join in the fun by participating in our grave, errr..campsite decorating contest!
Decorate your reserved (eternal resting) site as appropriate for Halloween, but please, no offensive displays. Judging will be held at 5:00 p.m.
First prize will be a $50 "Scary" Stone merchandise gift certificate. A $25 certificate will be awarded for second place. All other contestants will receive a parking pass good for a single day at any Virginia State Park.
Trunk-or-Treat - 6:00-7:30 pm @ Shelter 2 and the Main Campground
Wear your favorite costume and join park staff and our graveyard, oops I mean campground, guests for Trunk-or-Treating! Trunk-or-Treating will be held at Shelters 3 & 4. Parking for the event will be in the overflow lot directly across the street from the entrance to Shelters 3 & 4. There will be no moving vehicles allowed inside the Trunk-or-Treat area. Campsites at the campground that will be participating in the event will have a card displayed at their eternal resting site indicating their willingness to have you haunt them!
Ghost Hikes - 6:45pm - 9:30pm @ ADA Fishing Area
Register to join a ranger on a short ghost hike in the area where the ghosts and goblins roam from the old abandoned town of Fayerdale and the Fayerdale Cemetery. Bring a flashlight if you have one, as the trail is uneven. "Boos and ghouls" of all ages are welcome to join us.
Registration is required as group sizes are limited. Registration can be done at the Office 276-930-2424 or Visitor Center.
Hikes will leave at 6:45pm, 7:45pm, and 8:45pm
Hikes are limited to 15 children
