Open fires are prohibited throughout the park from midnight to 4 p.m. through April 30 per the 4 p.m. Burning Law. This includes wood and charcoal. Gas is permissible. Campground fires are allowed during the restricted time if a camp host is on duty and signage to that effect is posted in the campground. Failure to observe the 4 p.m. Burning Law can result in a fine. Contact the Park Office for additional information.

National Kids to Parks Day

Join us at Smith Mountain Lake State Park for National Kids to Parks Day. Come participate in some exciting programs that connect kids with the outdoors.

“Follow the Tracks” (11 a.m. to Noon) - Ever wonder what made those footprints you see when hiking a trail? Join us to explore animal signs of all kinds.

“Critter Wagon” and tracking games (1 p.m. to 3 p.m.) - Test out your knowledge on animal tracks while playing an exciting game. Join us on a hay wagon ride and discover some of the mammals that call our park home.
