Open fires are prohibited throughout the park from midnight to 4 p.m. through April 30 per the 4 p.m. Burning Law. This includes wood and charcoal. Gas is permissible. Campground fires are allowed during the restricted time if a camp host is on duty and signage to that effect is posted in the campground. Failure to observe the 4 p.m. Burning Law can result in a fine. Contact the Park Office for additional information.

Come explore our International Dark Sky Park! Join a park ranger and astronomy volunteers as they teach you about the night sky, observe the Lyrids Meteor Shower, and discuss the effects of light pollution. Meet the ranger at the Skyline Trail parking lot for a guided walk up to Jefferson Point.

Dark Sky Program Details:

Unless otherwise stated, all programs will take place at Skyline Trail. Parking is provided at the Skyline Trail parking lot. Standard parking and admission fees do not apply.

All programs are weather dependent. If a program is cancelled due to weather, we will have alternative Dark Sky programs offered indoors. Please monitor our website and social media for program updates or call the park to receive real-time information: (540) 291-1326.
