Open fires are prohibited throughout the park from midnight to 4 p.m. through April 30 per the 4 p.m. Burning Law. This includes wood and charcoal. Gas is permissible. Campground fires are allowed during the restricted time if a camp host is on duty and signage to that effect is posted in the campground. Failure to observe the 4 p.m. Burning Law can result in a fine. Contact the Park Office for additional information.

Just as caterpillars grow and change, our Caterpillar Club programs are designed to help your little one grow and change. Each week, we will have you and your child(ren) exploring our natural world through a variety of seasonally appropriate, hands-on activities that will foster children's inborn sense of wonder and curiosity. These experiences are gauged towards early childhood (3-5 years old), but of course, all family members are welcome and encouraged to participate. Every program supports Virginia's Blocks for Early Learning.

Please dress for the weather. We are meeting at Shelter 1. It is the shelter next to the playground by the Aquatics Complex.

April 4 - Eclipse Party: There is a partial eclipse on April 8th! Prepare with the rangers to safely view the eclipse and to learn why it is happening.
April 11 - Animal Jamboree: Spring is here, and the rangers are getting antsy. Let's move and dance like the animals at the park to see if we could live like them.
April 18 - Earth Day Art: Earth Day is April 22nd, so let's make some crafts out of recycled materials to celebrate our favorite day of the year.
April 25 - Nature Journaling: Bring your own journal, or grab one from the rangers, as we hike down Powhatan Trail to document what we see.
