Open fires are prohibited throughout the park from midnight to 4 p.m. through April 30 per the 4 p.m. Burning Law. This includes wood and charcoal. Gas is permissible. Campground fires are allowed during the restricted time if a camp host is on duty and signage to that effect is posted in the campground. Failure to observe the 4 p.m. Burning Law can result in a fine. Contact the Park Office for additional information.

Ever wondered what it would be like to pull in a huge bass or want to learn how to cast? Join the rangers and learn how to tie a knot, bait a hook, and cast a line. Then test out your new skills on Aquia Creek or Long Pond.
Rods, reels, and bait are all provided by the Friends of Widewater and the Department of Wildlife Resources, but participants may bring their own equipment. All ages are welcome.

A valid Virginia fishing license is required for those age 16 and older who would like to fish. Licenses can be purchased at the Visitor Center or online here.
