The appearance of frogs and salamanders are a sure sign of spring. Vernal pools, shallow pools of water that dry in the summer heat, provide a place for some very special amphibians to lay their eggs before returning to the land for the remainder of the year. Join a VA Master Naturalist expert on a visit to a vernal pool as we search for signs of these unique species. Please plan on meeting at the Lupton Entrance picnic shelter at 10am for a 2 mile walk to a vernal pool. Dress for the weather and bring polarized sunglasses and binoculars if possible. Please register for either program here.

Throughout the program, all program participants including park staff, volunteers, and park visitors will be asked to maintain appropriate social distancing of at least 6 feet. Face coverings are requested for all visitors in all facilities and outdoors when physical distancing is not possible.

All participants must display a daily or an annual parking pass for all programs.
