Open fires are prohibited throughout the park from midnight to 4 p.m. through April 30 per the 4 p.m. Burning Law. This includes wood and charcoal. Gas is permissible. Campground fires are allowed during the restricted time if a camp host is on duty and signage to that effect is posted in the campground. Failure to observe the 4 p.m. Burning Law can result in a fine. Contact the Park Office for additional information.

Stop by the Visitor Center each Sunday for a different activity kit that will get you and your family outdoors and making natural and cultural discoveries. Suitable for all ages, but primarily geared towards 12 and under. Activity kits are free while supplies last and have been graciously donated by the Friends of Pocahontas State Park. February 6: Over the Moon - have you ever wondered about the moon or the night sky? Discover how February's full moon got it's name and construct an easy to read sky chart. (These resources have been provided for you to print as home as well.)
February 13: Tweethearts - have you ever wondered what birds were in your backyard? Pick up some beginner birding information and take part in the Great Backyard Bird Count.
February 20: Alphabet Soup - have you ever wondered how the park was created? Learn more about the Civilian Conservation Corps (CCC), one of President Roosevelt's New Deal agencies in the 1930's, and practice RRR (reduce, reuse, and recycle) with a basket weaving activity.
February 27: Pine Paintings - have you ever wondered how nature can be used for art? Pine needles aren't just for trees, they can allow you to express your creative talents. Grab a paint kit and let nature's beauty inspire you.
