Geminid Meteor Shower Night Program

Location of High Bridge Trail State Park in Virginia

Where

High Bridge Trail State Park, (Mailing address) 6888 Green Bay Rd., Green Bay, VA 23942.
Camp Paradise- 1466 Camp Paradise Rd. Rice VA 23966

When

Dec. 14, 2021. 6:00 p.m. - 8:00 p.m.

Park visitors who are prepared for a cold and hopefully clear evening on High Bridge will have an opportunity to see shooting stars associated with the annual Geminid meteor shower over the Appomattox River valley. In past years, this program has yielded impressive displays of meteors as the Earth makes its annual run through a debris field left behind by an asteroid. Unlike many other showers, the Geminids often make a good show in the early evening.

High Bridge Trail State Park's astronomy events are held near the center of High Bridge where the view of the sky is unobstructed. When walking onto the bridge structure, visitors should turn off any flashlights that do not employ a red filter.  The event is free, but State Park parking fees apply. The only access to High Bridge for this event is by way of Camp Paradise at 1466 Camp Paradise Road, Rice, VA 23966.
