Open fires are prohibited throughout the park from midnight to 4 p.m. through April 30 per the 4 p.m. Burning Law. This includes wood and charcoal. Gas is permissible. Campground fires are allowed during the restricted time if a camp host is on duty and signage to that effect is posted in the campground. Failure to observe the 4 p.m. Burning Law can result in a fine. Contact the Park Office for additional information.

Long before Captain John Smith explored the area, this area was the home of the Patawomeck Tribe. Explore Holly Marsh or Long Pond Trail while learning how the Patawomecks used their environment to survive harsh and cold winters. After the hike, stop by our Patawomeck yehakin (longhouse) where you can warm up by the campfire, roast a marshmallow, and try your hand at some traditional Native American crafts.
Starting times for the guided hike will be at 11 a.m. and at 1 .pm. Meet the ranger next to the Visitor Center at least 5 minutes before your chosen starting time. This hike will be approximately 1.8 miles over an easy trail and will end at the Visitor Center. Pets are welcome but must be kept on a leash no longer than 6 feet long. Be sure to dress for the weather, wear sturdy walking/hiking shoes, and bring plenty of water to stay hydrated.
