Open fires are prohibited throughout the park from midnight to 4 p.m. through April 30 per the 4 p.m. Burning Law. This includes wood and charcoal. Gas is permissible. Campground fires are allowed during the restricted time if a camp host is on duty and signage to that effect is posted in the campground. Failure to observe the 4 p.m. Burning Law can result in a fine. Contact the Park Office for additional information.

Start the New Year with a special winter hike and get a "behind the scenes" look at False Cape State Park! This program includes an open-air tram ride through Back Bay National Wildlife Refuge and into False Cape, where participants will get to see features of the park that are not located on the trails and not normally accessible to visitors. Expect to walk about 1.5 miles, partly over soft sand. Dress for the weather; long pants and sturdy shoes are required for walking off-trail.

Space may be limited based on current COVID-19 guidance. Reservations are required. To make a reservation please call (757) 426-7128 during Visitor Center hours (9 a.m. - 4 p.m.).

To protect the safety of participants and staff: 1) Participant numbers may be limited based on current COVID guidelines. 2) Participants MUST wear a face covering on the tram. 3) Participants must pre-pay for the tour. 4) Participants cannot attend the tour if they have any of the following symptoms: cough, shortness of breath, fever, chills, muscle pain, sore throat, or new loss of taste or smell.
