Open fires are prohibited throughout the park from midnight to 4 p.m. through April 30 per the 4 p.m. Burning Law. This includes wood and charcoal. Gas is permissible. Campground fires are allowed during the restricted time if a camp host is on duty and signage to that effect is posted in the campground. Failure to observe the 4 p.m. Burning Law can result in a fine. Contact the Park Office for additional information.


Daniel Boone Wilderness Trail Interpretive Center

Bird's eye view of Daniel Boone Center.The center, a satellite location of Natural Tunnel State Park, is at 371 Technology Trail Lane in Duffield, Virginia. The operating schedule for Daniel Boone Wilderness Trail Interpretive Center varies seasonally. At the center, visitors learn about the important role Wilderness Road played in America’s westward expansion. Directly in front of Kane Gap, one of the last undeveloped portions of the Wilderness Road, the center offers a glimpse of the rough, unforgiving terrain early settlers traversed on their way to Kentucky.

The Daniel Boone Wilderness Trail Interpretive Center has a museum, conference room, library and gift shop. The museum focuses on the portion of the trail from Sycamore Shoals to Cumberland Gap and the brave men, women and children who traveled it. There are several hands-on exhibits, such as striking flint and steel to get a spark and period-appropriate clothing for guests to try on. The library has books, photographs and other information covering from early America through the end of the Civil War. The conference room accommodates up to 100 people. Internet access is included with all reservations, and audiovisual equipment is available for rent.

Reserving the center

To reserve the conference room, call 276-431-0104. Reservations may be made up to a year in advance. A deposit of 30 percent is required within 14 days of making the reservation. If a deposit is not received on time, the reservation will be cancelled. The deposit is refundable up to 14 days before the date of the event. Refunds will not be made for cancellations after that timeframe. Payment in full is due one week prior to the event’s occurrence unless previous arrangements have been made. Checks must be made payable to Treasurer of Virginia.
