Open fires are prohibited throughout the park from midnight to 4 p.m. through April 30 per the 4 p.m. Burning Law. This includes wood and charcoal. Gas is permissible. Campground fires are allowed during the restricted time if a camp host is on duty and signage to that effect is posted in the campground. Failure to observe the 4 p.m. Burning Law can result in a fine. Contact the Park Office for additional information.

Reservations, cancellations and transfers

Reservations

Child and dog by fireplace.Reservations for camping, cabins and picnic shelters can be made by calling the Virginia State Parks Customer Service Center, Sunday through Thursday: 7 a.m. to 7 p.m., and Friday and Saturday: 7 a.m. to 9 p.m., at 800-933-PARK (7275). For most facilities, reservations may also be made online.

Reservations may be made up to 11 months in advance. Same-day reservations are allowed for camping until 2 p.m.; however, same-day reservations for cabins are not guaranteed and must be made through the customer service center.

All reservations require payment in full at the time the reservation is made. Changes can be made to most reservations based on policy, but all cancellations will result in a penalty. Please be sure you are familiar with the policies before paying.

The minimum stay for cabins, lodges, camping cabins and bunkhouses (previously referred to as "camping lodges") is two nights, with check-in at 4 p.m. and check-out at 10 a.m. Yurts require a two night stay on the weekend and one night stay Sunday through Thursday nights. A full-week stay is required from Memorial Day weekend through Labor Day for cabins, lodges and the yurt at Kiptopeke. Three months before arrival, the required stay drops to four nights; one month before arrival, the required stay drops to two nights. Pets are allowed in all overnight facilities except yurts and the Walnut Valley House, and there's a $10 per night per pet fee. Smoking is not allowed in cabins, lodges, bunkhouses, camping cabins or yurts. Cooking is not allowed inside camping cabins or yurts.

On the left side of each park’s web page, you'll find a “Reserve Now” button. Click it to go to that park's web reservation page. Also, a non-refundable $5 transaction fee is charged for all overnight rentals. The fee covers the entire stay, regardless of length.

Cancellation Policy

Cancel your reservation online or by calling the Customer Service Center. You may cancel up until 90 days before arrival for a flat cancellation fee of $30 for a cabin or yurt and $60 for a lodge. After that date, you will be charged $30 for a cabin and $60 for a lodge per night dropped from the reservation.

The cancellation fee for bunkhouses, yurts (except at Kiptopeke) and camping cabins is $30 up until 30 days prior to arrival. Afterward, guests are charged per night - $30 for bunkhouses and yurts and $10 for camping cabins - dropped from the reservation period. The yurt at Kiptopeke is covered by the cabin cancellation policy above.

Cancellations must be made by 11:59 p.m. on the day before your scheduled arrival. After midnight, we consider the reservation used and, at minimum, will keep fees for the first two nights. Additional nights may be eligible for a partial refund, but this will need to be arranged through the park or the Customer Service Center.

Transfer policy

You may transfer your cabin, yurt, camping cabin or lodge to another time or park at no cost up to four days prior to the scheduled arrival date. Transfers can be made online or by calling the Customer Service Center during operating hours. (Transfers between parks cannot be made online). You are allowed to transfer your entire stay to a future date. You may be charged fees if you reduce the number of nights. Please note that you also cannot transfer from a lodge to a cabin or yurt, camping cabin or campsite, or from a cabin or yurt to a camping cabin or campsite (i.e., no facility downgrades). Downgrades require a cancellation and rebooking of the desired facility. After the transfer deadline, cancellation is the only option.

Early departure policy

If you decide to check-out before the end of your reservation period, a two-night minimum applies, and a $30 for cabin or yurt, $10 for a camping cabin, and $60 for a lodge per night fee will be deducted from your refund. Week-long reservations have a discounted rate and revert to the nightly fee when the stay is reduced. Check-out time is used to determine the unused portion of the stay.

Refer to your confirmation letter for a copy of these policies or contact the Customer Service Center at 800-933-PARK (7275) for a complete description of the refund recalculation policy as well as for specific cancellation and transfer policies for day-use facilities such as picnic shelters, meeting facilities, etc.
