If you love the outdoors and a challenge like I do, Sky Meadows State Park has just the thing for you:

The Veterans Day 5K Run/Walk for Wounded Warriors

And they're off at Sky Meadows State Park, Virginia

For me, the perfect combination for getting active outside includes a beautiful place to run and walk, a great cause to support, and a little friendly competition. You will find all of these elements during the November 12 Veterans Day 5K Trail Run/Walk at Sky Meadows State Park, starting at 10:00 a.m.

A beautiful place to run and walk:

I love the Sky Meadows State Park 5K course because it isn’t the typical city 5K run. Our cross-country course circles the park’s historic area along grassy fields, beside streams, and through woods. The variety of landscape and rolling hills are a perfect mesh of scenic views, and physical challenge to rejuvenate the body, mind, and soul. I feel more alive after taking on the Sky Meadows 5K course no matter my finishing time.

Not a runner? No worries! Take the time to stroll through the course while giving back to a great cause.

A great cause:

Whether running or walking, your participation will benefit the Wounded Warrior Project as we celebrate Veterans Day. All proceeds from the race will go to helping veterans in need. Is there a better way to honor veterans on their holiday than giving back to veterans in need?

Friendly competition:

There’s nothing like a little competition to make me give 110%, and it feels so good to challenge myself.  While everyone has different motivators, for me, knowing that there is a great prize doesn’t hurt. Overall male and female winners will receive a Virginia State Parks pass good for an entire year.

Winners of age classes will receive metals, and the first forty registrants will receive a race day t-shirt. It’s just a little icing on an already sweet cake.
