Top Ten Things To Do Outside - We Want Your Top Ten List!
Here are a few of my favorite things to do outside at a Virginia State Park
I don't know about you, but I see a frog!
JUST FLOATING ALONG
Have you ever lay back on a beach towel and stared up into the sky only to see shapes forming before your very eyes in the clouds? I know I can't possibly be the only one who does this! Finding shapes in clouds is fun!
IT'S ALL DOWN HILL FROM HERE
Have you ever done this? Wrapped your arms tight around yourself in an embrace and rolled down a grassy hill? If you haven't tried it, please do, I know you will have a blast!
ALL THE BIRDS GO TWEET TWEET TWEET
Close your eyes and listen. That is all that is required for this outside activity. If it is summertime, and you are under a tree on a picnic blanket, close your eyes and see how many different birds' calls or songs you can hear. Do you recognize any of them?
TAG YOU'RE IT!
Every kid's favorite, no matter how many kids there are, no matter how many trees, or where you are at a Virginia State Park you can play hide and seek! Playing tag can be incorporated into the game of hide and seek, tag the person as they try to run for base and yell SAFE! If it hasn't been done, I would like to nominate hide and seek as the "All American Most Fun Game!" and in fact should be allocated as the Virginia State Park game!
EUREKA I FOUND IT
I am not sure if I am a gold digger. I have not been properly named one, but gosh if I am in a creek and I see gold, well then I am going to find it! Wandering through a creek with in bare feet makes things seem to always sparkle and catch your eye. I imagine there is treasure to be found there, so I start looking for it! Do you ever hunt for treasure like this?
GO FLY A KITE
It doesn't matter if it is a kite from the dollar store, I still love flying it! I am not concerned with speed, I am not concerned with fanciness, sure there are those who like to up everyone else by having the "super duper monster trucks" of the kite world...but just give me a little wind and a kite on a string and I will be amused for hours!
THAT'S MAGNIFICANT
I think I must be blind, because if I have a way to magnify something it just looks 100 times more interesting! So hand me a magnifying glass...let me look at things like the veins on a leaf, or the legs on a bug! Some of the gift shop/concession areas at Virginia State Parks have had those magnified bug boxes. Have you ever seen those? You find an insect and put it in the box then you can look at it up real close! They are so cool.
ROAST 'EM TOAST 'EM
Fire fire fire! There is nothing as fun to a kid as fire, playing in fire, and poking sticks into the ashes. Watching sparks crack and rise out of the fire. And then there is food! Eating chargrilled food has got to be the top of the food chart for me. You can smell hot dogs and hamburgers cooking outside from a mile away! I will even be as bold as to say "Forget the s'mores and bring on the dawgs!
Cooking over an open fire is one of the best things to do outside at a Virginia State Park!
