Fortunately for us, Virginia is for lovers, and this being February, also known as the month of love, we won't have to drive too far to find a romantic getaway right in our own backyards. And if you can't escape for Valentine's Day itself, then you have the whole month to celebrate.
Wherever you are in Virginia you are never more than an hour away from a Virginia State Park. And some of those parks might just have a comfy cozy cabin available to rent for a few nights, so you can spend time away with the one you love.
People are shy to ask, but they really do want to know "What are the most romantic cabins at Virginia State Parks?" Let's explore our parks and help discover the cabins that are most often referred to as most romantic.

#1. HUNGRY MOTHER STATE PARK CABIN 2
Cabin 2 is the only waterfront cabin at Hungry Mother State Park
Most Romantic Feature: The Location
This is a quaint 1 bedroom log cabin built by the Civilian Conservation Corps back in the late 1930's. It is an oasis of privacy and sits waterfront near Hungry Mother Lake. Listen to the ducks just outside your door as you take in the view of the scenic little foot bridge over to the small island, and have easy access to the park's trails. It is often referred to as the "Honeymoon" cabin. More about cabins at this park here.

#2. JAMES RIVER STATE PARK CABIN 12

Most Romantic Feature: The Trains
James River State Park offers romantic cabin getaways in the foothills of the Blue Ridge Mountains. This park has 14 two bedroom cabins, and many of those sit single file overlooking the fields and foothills. You can hear the echo of a train "ch ch ch" in the distance as is traverses the tracks just beyond the river. And the sky comes alive when the sun goes down, especially if it is a new moon on the rise. More about cabins at this park here.

Most Romantic Feature: The Sunrise
Wake up together with the sun rising and bald eagles soaring over the cliffs of the Potomac River from cabin 24. This two bedroom cabin sits at the end of the row high above the river. There is ample space outside to allow for privacy, and a screened in porch to sit in rocking chairs with your morning coffee. More about cabins at this park here.

Most Romantic Feature: The Fireplace
You light the fire, while I pour a glass of sparkling cider then we can sit and snuggle in front of the fire. The cabins at Lake Anna State Park all feature wood burning fireplaces, but this cabin was a favorite due to the location. You can even wander over to the nearby cabin area dock and sit out on the water at the end of the day. The first bundle of firewood is provided with your cabin stay, and you can buy more at the park. Most Romantic Feature: The Point
Although there are a few waterfront cabins at this park, cabin 11 is not waterfront but provides the most serene access to this little rocky point to catch the sunset. A private trail will lead you to this romantic spot. Skip stones across the water as you drink in the sun going down silhouetting the bridge over Buggs Island Lake. Most Romantic Feature: The History
The original log hewn river rock fireplace CCC cabins at Douthat State Park are very romantic. There is something amazingly vintage and cool about this an era gone by. These cabins were built to last. Sitting by the fire with your best friend is a wonderful way to share the love at a Virginia State Park cabin. You will find this cabin super romantic as it is tucked away in the woods, with the acorns tumbling down over the roof. More about cabins at this park here.
Useful hint: Be sure to cook a romantic dinner for her at the cabin. Your happiness depends on this. Remember, as the bumper sticker says "If Momma ain't happy ain't nobody happy!"

Most Romantic Feature: The Furnishings
Two-bedroom cabin 1 known as the Spratley House was built in 1947 as a reproduction colonial structure with replica furnishings and white paneled walls. This two-story house has two upstairs bedrooms in what was once an open loft at Chippokes State Park. All four of the cabins at this park are set apart out on their own for ultimate privacy and romance in the cotton and soy bean fields. There is no fireplace, but comfy furnishings and plentiful space provide a gentle ambiance not found at any other park. More about cabins at this park here.
