It's almost time for the leaves to change. The mountains are calling, so you must go. It's time to relax in a Virginia State Park cabin, on the porch with a cup of coffee and enjoy your time together in front of a warm fire.
But the mountains don't hold a monopoly on beautiful fall scenery. It's gorgeous no matter where you turn in Virginia. And in fact, this is the perfect excuse for a road trip. Fall is just around the corner, and the leaves won't wait.
James River State Park is now a designated international Dark Sky Park.

What to expect
Cabins have simple furnishings, with kitchens and bathrooms. They also have a microwave, refrigerator, oven, dishes, cooking utensils, silverware, and glassware (no wine glasses). Towels and bed linens must be provided by guests. Virginia State Park cabins and lodges are pet-friendly. See our pet policy.
Except those at Chippokes State Park and Twin Lakes State Park's Hill Lodge and Martin Cottage, all cabins have fireplaces. Cabins at Smith Mountain Lake have wood stoves.
Between Memorial Day and Labor Day, cabin and lodge rentals are for six nights beginning on Friday, Saturday, Sunday or Monday, depending on the cabin and park. This requirement is reduced to a four-night stay three months out and dropped to two nights in the last month before arrival. There is a two-night minimum stay for the rest of the year.
