Join False Cape State Park rangers and docents from the Old Coast Guard Station museum for a special tram tour and Veteran's Day program on Tuesday, November 11, 2014 from 1 p.m. to 4:30 p.m.  The program is free, but pre-registration is required because space is limited to 48 people.  Please call the park directly at 757-426-7128 to register.

False Cape is truly a unique place to visit and you won't want to miss this opportunity to "catch a ride" and not have to hike the 5 miles through Back Bay National Wildlife Refuge.

False Cape State Park was a site of two Lifesaving Stations in the late 1800s, these stations gave way to what would become the modern Coast Guard.  The park was also the site of the historic Wash Woods community, various hunt clubs, and infamous juke joints.

Remnants of the Wash Woods community can be found throughout the park.

The park is also the site of some great military history including the civil war-era Great Maple Leaf escape and that German U-boats patrolled the shores.  Recently, the remains of one of the U-boats was found along the Outer Banks of North Carolina.

The remains the the 19th century Italian freighter, Clythia, can be seen at low-tide. The legal wrangling over this ship set legal precedent for modern salvage rights.
