Here is the good news, at the time of this article the rates were unbelievable compared to other horseback riding we have done. They offer two rides, short and long, and they also have pony rides for 10 and under for $5 plus tax. Guided Short Ride is just $20 plus tax and the Guided Long Ride, (which for us was about 1 hour and 45 minutes) is just $35 plus tax!

Hours are seasonal from April 1 to October 31, Daily 9:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. and you can make reservations if you want to ride in the cool of the day before it heats up at 9:30 a.m., otherwise after that rides are first come first serve (keep that in mind if you visit on a weekend). New River Trail State Park has been designated an official National Recreation Trail by the U. S. Department of the Interior. The park parallels 39 miles of the New River, which is one of the world's oldest rivers and among a handful of rivers flowing north.

This was a great day trip for us from Claytor Lake State Park, as it was only about 30 minutes to New River Trail State Park!
