Once in a Blue Moon

By Nancy HeltmanPosted August 15, 2012

Come out to a Virginia State Park on August 31, 2012 to celebrate the Blue Moon
There won't be another until July 31, 2015

"Once in a Blue Moon" is a phrase often used to convey something rare, maybe not as rare as "when hell freezes over" but rare. Actually, a blue moon happens approximately every 2.66 years according to Space.com.

What is a Blue Moon (other than a really great craft beer served with an orange slice)? It's two full moons in the same month. In August, we will enjoy a full moon on August 1 and then again on August 31 so the moon on August 31 will be a Blue Moon.
