It’s the most wonderful time of the year and we are celebrating with Christmas traditions and festivities of the 1800’s.

Come out and enjoy special holiday festivities with us at an Old-Fashioned Christmas at Staunton River Battlefield.

When the Christmas tree was becoming more popular, the joy of gift giving surged, and even Santa as we know him today was becoming a well-known figure. Staunton River Battlefield State Park will transport you back in time to celebrate a 19th Century Christmas, with a few modern additions.

All ages can enjoy the activities during our Old-Fashioned Christmas Event on December 8, from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m., at the Clover Visitor Center. Admission fee is $2 per person or $10 for a family of 5 or more. Ages 3 and under are free.

CRAFT STATION

Decorate a fun pine cone tree

Decorate a pinecone tree and share it with a friend

Bring the family over to our craft station where we will create some nature inspired holiday decorations. Decorate a pinecone Christmas tree or paint a tree cookie ornament to hang on your tree or give to a friend.

JINGLING WAGON RIDE

Take a jingling wagon ride

Sit back and enjoy the ride, maybe even sing a Christmas carol or two

Take a break and hop on our jingling wagon ride. Sit back and enjoy the ride or sing a Christmas carol or two, we encourage it. Wagon rides will be available throughout the evening, be sure to dress for cold weather.

WREATH WORKSHOP

Wreath Workshop is a fun event. The fee is $8 per wreath, and limited spaces are available.  Please call the park office at (434) 454-4312 to pre-register.

Make your own wreath (space is limited so be sure to pre-register)

Bring out your inner crafty side and decorate a holiday wreath for your home. Pre-register for this activity and all the supplies will be provided including a grapevine wreath, fresh greenery, decorative ribbons, and more. You are welcome to bring some of your own festive décor from home to adorn your wreath.

SWEET TREATS AND HOLIDAY STORIES

Costumed reenactors will share tales of Christmas Past

Mingle in the Clover Visitor Center while costumed reenactors share tales of Christmas past

Relax and stay awhile. Mingle through the visitor center with a piping hot cup of apple cider or hot cocoa. Cookies and other sweet treats will be offered as well.

As you enjoy your desserts, costumed reenactors will share tales of Christmas past.

PLUS, VISIT THE MULBERRY HILL PLANTATION

Learn about Mulberry Hill Plantation

December 1 and 2 offer tours of the Mulberry Hill plantation house

On December 1 and 2, 2018 from 1:00 p.m.- 4:00 p.m., you can tour the Mulberry Hill plantation house in all its festive holiday décor. Stroll through the house and hear the stories of the plantation’s history, listen and dance to old-fashioned live music, and enjoy some refreshments. 

Admission fee is $5 per person. Ages 6 and under are free. Tickets can be purchased at the plantation house or the Roanoke Station Visitor Center the day of the event.
