EXPLORE. LEARN. PROTECT.

Be a Pocahontas State Park Junior Ranger!

Pocahontas State Park is pleased to offer a new Junior Ranger Activity Book for children ages 5-12. The activity book offers 3 activity levels by age range. The activities encourage and facilitate exploring the park, learning about the park's history, discovering nature through hands-on experiences and enjoying the park's outdoor recreational activities.

To become a Junior Ranger, children must complete their age level activities in the Activity Book and attend 4 ranger-led programs. The programs may include guided hikes, nature programs, Junior Ranger specific events and summer day camps. Children completing the program requirements will receive a Jr. Ranger patch.

Jr. Ranger Family Amazing Race

Saturday, May 19, 2012  from 10:30 a.m. to 3 p.m.  Cost is $8/couple or $12/family. Registration is required and deadline is April 22!

Calling all children ages 5-12 and their families to participate in a great day of fun and adventure with our new Jr. Ranger program in connection with Kids to Park Day. Jr. Ranger Family Amazing Race is loosely based on the TV show "The Amazing Race" with directions to locations in the park and challenges like road blocks and detours. Unlike the TV show, no one will be eliminated as emphasis is on completing the challenges and not finishing the race first. Participation in our "race" will jump start your way to becoming a Pocahontas State Park Jr. Ranger!

Rules to participate:

1. Children ages 5-12 may participate with an adult only (adult meaning age 18 and older).
2. Couples consist of one Jr. Ranger child and an adult.
3. Family participants must include at least one Jr. Ranger child.
4. No vehicles may be used to get to "race" locations. Bikes and on foot are transportation options.
5. Appropriate footwear must be worn (no flip-flops or heels).

Contact Krista Weatherford by email to receive an electronic application or visit the park office to pick up an application.
