There is always something very special for me about this Holiday event at the Park of the Month "Westmoreland State Park."

Westmoreland State Park in the snow

Westmoreland is beautiful year-round

This event started out as an “Open House “to introduce the newly renovated Helen & Tayloe Murphy Hall to the community. We brought the outside in by decorating with greenery, berries and nature; it kindled fond memories of days of spent hiking through the forest with my father looking for greenery to decorate our home.

The staff and volunteers baked cookies, brewed hot cider, and played music for the park guests as they filtered in to see what wondrous things had been done to Murphy Hall.

Everyone seems pleased with the new Murphy Hall, especially dressed in its holiday splendor!  With the fireplace going strong we placed rocking chairs around the hearth and settled in to read stories from days gone by and “stockings were hung by the chimney with care”.  It was just like an old fashioned Christmas, for me, I half expected Ebenezer to come strolling in!

This event has been popular ever since and has grown better every year.

This year we are adding Santa and a hayride to the festivities as well as an outside fire pit perfect for roasting marshmallows! Guests are always welcome to spend the day. You can relax by the fire, sip refreshments, nibble on cookies and treats or visit the nearby gift shop at the Visitor Center.  For a little fresh air and to work off some of those cookies, miles of hiking trails offer fun and adventure.
