Shared by Louise Woolard, Office Manager, as Guest Blogger.
Do you volunteer with a scout group or church youth group? Do you love camping, and want to get your kids involved in overnight camping trips, but don’t have resources or the necessary equipment for such a large group?
This historic Civil Conservation Corps (CCC) cabin is one of many single sleeping cabins within the group camp
Why use the group camp cabins at Pocahontas?
If you use the group cabins located at Pocahontas State Park – all you need are sleeping bags, flashlights, a little firewood and food! What could be easier? These group cabin facilities are available to provide overnight accommodations in a scenic, tranquil park setting. Access nearly 8,000 acres for outdoor activities while sleeping in cozy, wood frame cabin that comes with bunk beds, ceiling lights and electrical outlets to handle that window fan or cell phone charger.
A great gathering place is around the fire ring located in the center of the group camp
Two camps within the park are available with overnight facilities ranging in size from 28 beds to 112 beds. The camps consist of up to four cabin circles (units). Each cabin sleeps from 4 to 8 people each. A modern shower house and restroom is located near each unit and has hot showers and flush toilets. Each unit also includes a Lodge building with tables and chairs, an indoor fireplace, and an outdoor grill. A large fire ring is in the center of each unit for outdoor campfires at night.

Affordability is the key
These cabins certainly are easy on your tight budget. A unit (circle) of cabins that will accommodate up to 28 people is just $112.00 per night. That’s just $4.00 per person per night – every bit as affordable as tent camping – but without the hassle of getting tents and equipment together.
Modern bathroom facilities are located within the camp.
Also available at Pocahontas State Park are hiking trails, bike trails, two lakes for freshwater fishing, and specialized environmental education programs. The pool and boat rentals are also open seasonally.
