The park’s trails are divided into two sections: the Westside Trails and the Eastside Trails.

The Westside Trails (PDF) make up the majority of the trails with a total length of 12.81 miles.  The trails include: Ambassador White House Trail, the Appalachian Trail, Capt. James Ball Trail, Gap Run Trail, North Ridge Trail, Old Trail, Piedmont Overlook Trail, Snowden Trail, South Ridge Trail, Boston Mill Road Trail, and Woodpecker Lane Trail.

All Westside Trails are for hikers only except Woodpecker Lane Trail which also allows bikers.

The Appalachian Trail is a National Scenic Trail stretching more than 2,150 miles from Mount Katahdin, Maine to Springer Mountain, Ga. Approximately one quarter of the trail lies in Virginia with sections passing through Grayson Highlands State Park and Sky Meadows State Park. For more information on hiking the trail, contact the Appalachian Trail Conservancy or look for a trail club in your area.

The Eastside Trails (PDF) include: Rolling Meadows Trail, Shearman’s Mill Trail, Lost Mountain Trail, Washington’s Ridge Trail, Hayfield Trail, and Old Pasture Trail.

All Eastside Trails are designed for equestrians except for Shearman’s Mill Trail.  These trails have been described as a “horseback rider’s delight” with the majority of trails made up of grass.  The trails start from the parking lot east of Highway 17.

Come out to the park and enjoy a hiking or horseback riding trip with a range of trails for every skill level.
