Flat-water For First-Timers
For many people, flatwater canoeing and kayaking seems a bit daunting. The most common fears range from capsizing, tidal currents, and snakes. Piers offer great fishing. Pedal boats are fun. But, neither gives the freedom, exercise, and brings visitors close experiences with wildlife as a boat and paddle.
York River State Park will hold a Wild Workshop for first time flatwater canoeists and kayakers. This is the ideal seminar and tour for those who have never paddled and those who haven't done it in years. Chief Ranger Brad Thomas and Park Interpreter Scott Deane will discuss the basics of boating, equipment, and safety. There will also be plenty of time to enjoy the winding Taskinas Creek and historic York River.
Fees and reservations are required. Please call the park office at (757)566-3036
