WHAT'S YOUR SPRING CAMPING STYLE?
Virginia State Parks offers primitive camping, tent sites, yurts, camping cabins and electric sites across the state. While some like to carry everything they'll need for a camping trip on their back, like Virginia Backpacking. Others, like the Payne Family go in style, celebrating spring together around an open fire, with all the fixings.
Whatever your style, Virginia State Parks is here for you from the rugged primitive camping along the Atlantic Ocean, to the mountains of Appalachia. If spring's not your thing, most campgrounds are open from the first Friday in March through the first Monday in December; primitive sites are available year-round. Douthat, Hungry Mother, Pocahontas and Shenandoah River state parks have full-service campgrounds open year-round. See a map here.
