Escape to Twin Lakes State Park
Twin Lakes State Park is abundant with natural beauty!
I recently visited Twin Lakes State Park near Farmville, Virginia and as I drove to the park entrance, I noticed a baby red fox cross the road! It was the first time in my life that I had experienced such an encounter. When I finally arrived inside the park, I asked the Contact Ranger about the encounter. She said they had several fox dens in the area. How cool!
Twin Lakes State Park is bursting with natural beauty and several forests.
When I walked around the lake another peculiar encounter occurred, I noticed several butterflies drinking water!

As I ventured around the lake, I noticed something: pure and utter quiet. There were of course a few people talking here and there, but something was missing. What could that be, road noise? There was no pitter-patter of cars or a far off road to be heard. To me this was amazing; I cannot remember a time when I experienced such silence, communing only with the music of nature. I grew up in the Powell Valley of Virginia, surrounded by nature; however, I never had the luxury of such an explicit quiet.
If I could recommend one park to visit for a person with a spirit in need of serenity and peace, I would recommend Twin Lakes State Park. Not only can one experience the peace of quiet silence, but nature is always in grasp and there is always something to do!
There is a swimming area by the lake and visitors can rent canoes and paddle boats, which is perfect for a lazy day on the lake or to fit in one’s daily exercise.
Have kids you want to be entertained? There are lakeside playgrounds with nearby shelters. Family reunions can enjoy picnics by the lake while allowing the children to play.
Need a place for a wedding, family reunion, or a business retreat? Twin Lakes is perfect.
