Catch-a-Great Time at Holliday Lake State Park

The shoreline of Holliday Lake is a perfect place to practice fly fishing
Holliday Lake State Park features a scenic 153-acre lake and is a great place to escape and enjoy a relaxing day of fishing. Anglers will find largemouth bass, crappie, bluegill, fair chain pickerel and yellow perch in the lake. The nearby Virginia Department of Game and Inland Fisheries delayed-harvest trout stream allows for a unique opportunity to fish for brown and rainbow trout as well.

The Holliday Creek trout fishing is strictly Catch and Release from October 31 - June 15, 2013. During this time anglers may only use artificial lures, feel free to get creative and make your own fly. Baits such as minnows, worms, or power baits are prohibited. However, any other time of the year you may use bait and keep your catch; as long as the trout are over 7 inches long.
Boats are available for rent at the park's boat dock
For those who prefer to be out on the open water, boat rentals are available from the first weekend in April through the last weekend in October. Half or full-day rentals of rowboats, canoes, paddle boats and sit-on-top kayaks are available to guests through the boat house during the parks regular business hours of 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on weekdays, with extended hours of 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. on weekends and holidays. There is also a boat launch for guests who would prefer to bring their own boat - electric motors only, gas powered boats are prohibited on the lake.

A valid Virginia fishing license is required for all fishing. In addition to a fishing license, those who choose to fish the stocked Holliday Creek will need a State Harvest Use Permit as well as trout stamps. The Virginia fishing license, State Harvest Use Permit, and trout stamps are all sold at the park office during regular business hours (Monday thru Friday 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.).

The park is located in Appomattox County by accessing State Route 24 between Appomattox and U.S. 60 and from Routes 626, 640 and 692.
Drive Time: Northern Virginia, three and a half hours; Richmond, two hours; Tidewater/Norfolk/Virginia Beach, four hours; Roanoke, two hours.
