I spent a couple days at Occoneechee State Park on the shores of the John H Kerr Reservoir (Virginia's largest lake). This is one of the greatest fishing spots in the commonwealth of Virginia, most of the other cabins were occupied by families or couples who were there to fish.

We went out for the late afternoon/early evening bite, and did a bit of trolling. Apparently the best spot to catch a creel-full of crappies is under the bridge pilings. We spent some time over there, and having just missed the sunset the night before as I dashed out to the water's edge with my camera only to see a fiery ball drop down below the horizon, I was well equipped this time to catch more than a glimpse of the day passing into night.

The book I am currently reading is Walking Home: A Traveler in the Alaskan Wilderness, a Journey into the Human Heart by Lynn Schooler. The author shares some stunning observations about the wildlife he encounters from Juneau and the Gulf of Alaska into thousands of miles of remote and isolated wilderness. In one such observation he described the privy of the Plover bird, a shorebird that makes one of the greatest annual transoceanic migration on earth from Hawaii to Alaska. He explains some of the Plovers extrasensory abilities, or enhanced senses compared to humans and proclaims how amazing it would be to be privy to creation as is the Plover.

I was at Occoneechee State Park and was privy to the most beautiful scenery, some of which I captured on my Nikon digital SLR. I am posting them on Flickr as I want you to see them in their full size and glory, feel free to use these images (with credit to Virginia State Parks) as you wish. They are too awesome not to share. Please, I implore you, go to the larger image and take in the scenery! Then begin making your plans to visit a Virginia State Park soon.

Sunset at Occoneechee State Park

"Clouds come floating into my life, no longer to carry rain or usher storm, but to add color to my sunset sky. " --R Tagore. The water was glass, a boat zipped past and what you see is the reflection of the sky and clouds that look like waves
