Open fires are prohibited throughout the park from midnight to 4 p.m. through April 30 per the 4 p.m. Burning Law. This includes wood and charcoal. Gas is permissible. Campground fires are allowed during the restricted time if a camp host is on duty and signage to that effect is posted in the campground. Failure to observe the 4 p.m. Burning Law can result in a fine. Contact the Park Office for additional information.

Watchable Wildlife Pontoon Boat Tour

September 7, 2021. 9:30 a.m. - 11:00 a.m.

Ride with a park guide as we experience the shores of Smith Mountain Lake State Park. Experience an enjoyable ride on the lake while we keep a lookout for waterfowl and other natural lake residents. Wildlife you might catch a glimpse of include deer, turtles, fish, osprey, ducks, great blue heron, or even a bald eagle. We will make stops to take in the scenery and for photo opportunities. PFDs (life vests) will be provided by the park and must be worn at all times. Water and sunscreen are recommended. Unfortunately, we cannot take pets aboard the boat. You must be present 15 minutes before start time in order to board and for safety talk.

Pre-registration required at our Visitor Center. Space is limited. Registration for this event opens one week prior to date of each tour and closes at 4 p.m. the day before each tour. Sorry, but we cannot take reservations earlier than one week prior to the date you plan to go on a tour. Event is free, but regular parking fees apply.
