Open fires are prohibited throughout the park from midnight to 4 p.m. through April 30 per the 4 p.m. Burning Law. This includes wood and charcoal. Gas is permissible. Campground fires are allowed during the restricted time if a camp host is on duty and signage to that effect is posted in the campground. Failure to observe the 4 p.m. Burning Law can result in a fine. Contact the Park Office for additional information.

Artist Open House: Weaving

The CCC Museum at Pocahontas State Park is pleased to host the third in a series of art exhibitions and workshops to celebrate the contributions the Civilian Conservation Corps made to Virginia State Parks. According to documentation, the most popular crafts hosted at the park in 1939 included leather craft, pottery, and basket weaving. To honor these traditions, park visitors and local residents are invited to attend an open house, featuring live craft demonstrations and weaving workshops. There will also be a community art project for everyone to contribute to!

Tony Daniels, the Chesterfield Underwoodsman, will be on site demonstrating weaving techniques. He will also be facilitating a basket-weaving class for adults (16 years and older) at 2 p.m. The cost is just $10/person. Space is limited to please call (804) 796-4472 to reserve your spot today.
