Open fires are prohibited throughout the park from midnight to 4 p.m. through April 30 per the 4 p.m. Burning Law. This includes wood and charcoal. Gas is permissible. Campground fires are allowed during the restricted time if a camp host is on duty and signage to that effect is posted in the campground. Failure to observe the 4 p.m. Burning Law can result in a fine. Contact the Park Office for additional information.

Prelude to Yorktown Revolutionary War Reenactment

Prior to Yorktown in 1781, the events that would dictate the movement of the armies are often overshadowed. Chippokes Plantation State Park will offer a glimpse into the battles, actions, and camp life of both the British and American Armies as they progress on the road to Yorktown in the third annual Prelude to Yorktown Reenactment.

Battle scheduled for 1:30pm, demonstrations for the cavalry, artillery, and camp life will be offered throughout the day. Vendors for food and historic crafts onsite. Tours of the 1854 Jones-Stewart Mansion and Hearth Cooking demonstrations offered throughout the day.
