Veteran's Day Flag Retirement Ceremony

park locationWhere

Chippokes State Park, 695 Chippokes Park Rd., Surry, VA 23883. Campground fire ring area, behind bathhouse A.

When

November 11, 2020. 11:00 a.m. - 12:00 p.m.

Following a long standing tradition, American Legion Post 160 will be coming to the campfire ring in the campground to preform a flag retirement ceremony. With a few guest speakers, and an explanation of the process of retiring a flag, the event will be a wonderful experience for all ages. If you would like to donate a flag for the ceremony, we will have a "drop box" in the Visitor Center at the park, or you can bring the flag with you to the ceremony. Due to the current pandemic, and restrictions, we are keeping the event limited. Please bring a blanket or lawn chair of your own for seating. The thick smoke created by the retirement ceremony, and the potential for being unable to ensure social distancing, we strongly encourage our guests to wear masks while attending.
