Come and have fun making seed balls with mud! This is a hands-on, family friendly program that will get your hands dirty. We will meet at the picnic pavilion at the Clover Visitor Center. Take home your seed ball or help us plant them in the park's pollinator pathway.

Join us at the Fort Hill fortifications for our “History Hike.” Visitors will discover the historical and cultural aspects surrounding the Staunton River Bridge with a focus on the importance of the site during the American Civil War. Come out and learn what victory or defeat meant for the North, South, and Enslaved African Americans.

Get up close and learn about why so many turtles call our park their home. We will meet at the Clover Center and walk a half mile round trip to see turtles in their homes. We will learn about the unique lives of turtles and why they are important to Virginia. The trail descends gently to our wetland area. Please wear proper shoes for uneven and slippery terrain. This program is for all ages, but please leave your four legged pets at home for this one. Please contact us if you have any mobility needs or questions about the program at 434-454-4312.

Join a Virginia Master Naturalist with binoculars and dip nets in the water as we discover why our wetlands are so rich in nature. This program is family friendly. Join us at the Staunton River Battlefield as we commemorate those of the United States Armed Forces who gave the last full measure of duty and devotion to the nation and its people. A ranger will discuss the battle that took place at the historic river bridge crossing and lay a ceremonial wreath in honor of the day’s observances.

This program will highlight the flying insects that fly through our park! We will get some butterfly nets and try to catch some floating fancies as we learn about the types of bees that help and the ones to avoid. Join us to learn about the secret lives of dragonflies. Join us at Mulberry Hill where a ranger will discuss the importance of Juneteenth, one of many “freedom days” that began in Texas, now having gained popularity across the country today. A special program will discuss enslaved life at Mulberry Hill, with an examination of the institution during the wartime years. The program will cover what freedom looked like across the country and in Virginia, and how the former slaves of Mulberry Hill and the surrounding area maintained their newly found freedom.
