Where
Program Location: Water's Edge Meeting Facility
Main Park Address: Claytor Lake State Park, 6620 Ben H. Bolen Dr., Dublin, VA 24084.
When
May 23, 2026. 10:00 a.m. - 2:00 p.m.
Want to become a citizen scientist for the day? Claytor Lake State Park invites you to participate in our Spring BioBlitz where visitors, volunteers, and park staff will try to find and identify as many species as we can throughout the park. Participants will sign up for a specific location at a table outside the Water's Edge Meeting Facility before heading to their area with a team lead.
Participants are encouraged to download the iNaturalist smartphone app (iNaturalist.org) where they will upload their observations. There will be a demonstration on how to use the iNaturalist app to record your observations for this project beforehand. To find out more about the free iNaturalist app and to download it to your device before the BioBlitz, please visit https://www.inaturalist.org/.
Everyone is welcome no matter what your experience level may be. This event will officially run until 2 p.m., but folks who'd like to continue on their own are more than welcome to. Please be sure to bring water/snacks, wear sunscreen/insect repellent, smartphones, binoculars, field guides, etc. Comfortable closed-toe shoes are recommended.
