History usually tells us how the battle ended. This lecture looks at who did not go home after it.

This program focuses on the lives of specific individuals who died at Sailor’s Creek. Rather than examining troop movements or command decisions, it explores who these men were before they ever became casualties. Visitors are guided through the human story behind the event, learning how old they were, where they came from, and what is known about their lives beyond the battlefield.

The journey from ordinary life to battlefield loss is told through age, background, and the small details that survive in the historical record. Each name becomes a doorway into a real life, not just a footnote in a campaign. By the end of the presentation, visitors are invited to see the battle not only as a turning point in a campaign, but as the final chapter in individual lives that ended on this ground.

Program will be presented rain or shine. For questions about this program, please contact the Visitor Center at 804-561-7510 or email Shannah.Winchester@dcr.virginia.gov.
