Call of the Creek

Where
Program Location: Carriage Barn in the Historic Area
Main Park Address: Sky Meadows State Park, 11012 Edmonds Ln., Delaplane, VA 20144.
When
April 1, 2026. 10:00 a.m. - 12:00 p.m.
Join us as we answer the call of the creek and investigate how the water quality of streams is interconnected with the environmental health of Sky Meadows State Park. This Ranger-led program meets in the Park’s carriage barn and proceeds to our stream access area, offering guests a unique program experience beyond the bounds of the historic area. First, we'll take a leisurely wagon ride down to Gap Run, followed by a short hike to the stream. Participants will conduct water sampling and analysis, survey macroinvertebrates, and practice nature journaling to “capture” our discoveries. Don't miss this chance to get your feet wet and practice science in action!
The program is designed for children ages 6 – 12, although all are welcome. The hike portion will cover a short distance (approx. ½ mile) over flat terrain. Come prepared to get your feet wet (recommend wearing shorts, shoes that may get wet, and consider bringing a towel for post creek exploration).
This program is part of our Spring Break program Series. Pre-registration is highly recommended due to limited wagon capacity. Walk-ups are welcome if wagon space is available.
