Fishing is Fun! Beginner Workshop

Location of Sky Meadows State Park in Virginia

Where

Program Location: Turner Pond Entrance
Main Park Address: Sky Meadows State Park, 11012 Edmonds Ln., Delaplane, VA 20144.

When

April 6, 2026. 2:00 p.m. - 4:00 p.m.

Join us at Sky Meadows State Park for a hands-on clinic designed to get you started in your journey as an angler. Rangers will guide you through the basics of fishing, including the parts of a rod, casting techniques, and common freshwater fish in our region of Virginia. We will have a hookless casting game as well as a full rig training, which will include tying hooks and selecting tackle. Then we will head out to Turner Pond to put your new skills to the test. We’ll provide rods, reels, and bait; you bring your enthusiasm (or your own rod if you prefer)! Please be sure to dress for the weather and pack water, sunscreen, a hat, sunglasses, and bug spray. Come cast, learn, and play your way into the world of fishing!

A valid Virginia fishing license is required for anyone 16 or older to fish. Guests without a license are welcome to attend the clinic, but will not be able to fish in the pond. All equipment is provided through the Virginia Department of Wildlife Resources’ “Fishing in Parks” program. Equipment is limited, so reservations are recommended.
