Due to the expected impact of the winter storm, all Virginia State Park overnight facilities will be closed from Friday, Jan. 23 through Tuesday, Jan. 27. This decision is based on the forecast for unsafe conditions and potential power outages. For updates click here.
S'mores Caching

Where
Bear Creek Lake State Park, 22 Bear Creek Lake Rd., Cumberland, VA 23040.
Legacy Wayside
When
Feb. 21, 2026. 12:30 p.m. - 2:30 p.m.
This popular activity gives you the chance to glean the makings of a s'more while enjoying a geocaching adventure. The cache locations are new for 2026. Three boxes are hidden with each box having a s'mores component ticket for either a graham cracker, a plant-based marshmallow, or a chocolate bar. Find all three, return to the starting spot and collect your s'mores kit. There will be a campfire to roast your well-earned dessert.
The quest route will be half a mile over fairly level ground, so it is a good activity for younger kids because they love looking for stuff. Never geocached before? Park staff will explain how it is done, how our GPS units work, and lend you a unit for the activity. If you have a GPS app on your phone or devise, we'll give you the cache coordinates.
This program can be started anytime between 12:30 and 2:30 p.m. The campfire will burn until 3:30 p.m.
