When in doubt, kayak it out! Get a grip on your paddle and learn all the basics of kayaking on the lake. Hungry Mother State Park is partnering with Virginia Department of Wildlife Resources to offer this free opportunity to learn how to paddle a kayak on flat water. Participants must be 8 years or older and must know how to swim. Wear clothes you don't mind getting wet and shoes that are strapped to your feet. We don't want anyone loosing their shoes! There are limited spots so participants must sign up by 4:30 on 5/15/26 by calling 276-781-7400.
About National Kids to Parks Day
Virginia State Parks celebrates National Kids to Parks Day on the third Saturday in May by offering a variety of fun, family-friendly activities, from nature scavenger hunts and ranger-led hikes to fishing clinics and flora and fauna wagon rides. This annual event encourages kids to explore the outdoors while learning about wildlife and engaging in hands-on environmental education.
