Gather around the weapons display in the Visitor Center for an in depth look at the carbines carried by Union cavalry. This program focuses on the Sharps, Spencer, and Smith carbines, how they functioned, how troopers loaded and fired them, and what advantages or limitations each weapon brought to mounted service. Visitors will also learn what surviving bullets, casings, and ammunition fragments reveal about how cavalry fought, where they positioned themselves, and how the action unfolded on this landscape. This is a focused program that uses the artifacts on display to connect technology, tactics, and the battlefield. Stop by the Visitor Center and speak to a ranger anytime between 9 a.m. and 4 p.m. to start this program.
