Whether you're a classroom teacher, homeschool instructor, club sponsor, or anything in between, Douthat State Park is a great place to bring your group for a day of hands-on, outdoor learning.
We offer a variety of ranger-led educational programs that are aligned with the Virginia Standards of Learning (SOLs) and designed to help students connect with the natural world in meaningful ways.
Program options include guided nature hikes, stream studies, owl pellet dissections, forest ecology, and more. All programs take place outdoors at our Discovery Center, and we can tailor the experience to meet your group’s needs.
If a field trip to the park isn’t possible, we also offer outreach programs where a ranger can visit your school to deliver select programs in the classroom.
Field trips are affordable—just $3 per student or $30 per class, whichever is more cost-effective. Title 1 schools may qualify for free programming.
To get started planning your field trip, complete our Educational Program Request Form, which includes a list of available programs.
For questions or help planning your visit, please contact Hannah Johnson at 540-862-8114 or Hannah.Johnson@dcr.virginia.gov.
We look forward to welcoming you and your students to the park!
Parks are for everyone. To ensure an enjoyable time, please alert park staff to any necessary special accommodations you or your group may need.
