When

Jan. 1, 2026. 3:00 p.m. - 4:00 p.m.

Step into the past and start the new year with a leisurely stroll along the YCC Trail, a half-mile, easy-rated hike that hugs the scenic shoreline of Douthat Lake. This guided walk offers more than just beautiful views—it’s a journey through time.

As you follow the trail, a Douthat State Park ranger will share stories about the park’s rich history, including the legacy of the Civilian Conservation Corps (CCC). You’ll pass by some of the oldest CCC-built structures in the park and enjoy a fantastic view of Douthat’s iconic CCC-built spillway, a true testament to the craftsmanship and vision of the 1930s.

This short hike is perfect for families, history buffs, and anyone looking to begin the year with a deeper appreciation for Virginia’s natural and cultural heritage.

Be sure to dress warmly and wear sturdy close-toed shoes.

Parks are for everyone. If you have accessibility questions or concerns, please call 540-862-8114 or email Hannah.Johnson@dcr.virginia.gov.
